Website Estimate Questions: Ask Before You Quote

Example session with this skill installed

What should I ask before quoting this? "We're Harbor Physio, a small clinic with three therapists. Our current site is an old Wix site from 2017, about 6 pages. We'd like a new site: Home, About us, Our team, Services (around 8 treatments), Prices, Contact with a map. Patients should be able to book online, we already use a booking system at the front desk. Our receptionist should change prices and opening hours herself. We have a logo and brand colors, we'll write the texts, a photographer comes next month. English only. We'd love to launch before the end of March."

    1. Client message

    Hi Dana,

Thanks for the detailed brief. Here's what we already understand:

    - A new site to replace your 2017 Wix site (about 6 pages)
    - Online booking, using the system you already have at the front desk
    - Your receptionist updates prices and opening hours herself
    - Logo and colors ready; you write the texts, your photographer shoots the photos
    - English only, launch before the end of March

A few questions so the estimate is accurate. "Not sure yet" is a fine answer to any of them.

    1. Which booking system do you use? Would its own booking widget placed on the site work for you?
    2. For the design: a) a quality template adapted to your logo and colors b) a fully unique design c) not sure
    3. Do new patients find you through Google today?
    4. Is your domain registered in your name, or was it bought through Wix?
    5. Should the contact form ask about the patient's condition?
    6. Do you have a privacy policy for the website?

Once we have these, we'll send the estimate.

    2. Why these questions

    #QuestionHour swingRisk
    1Booking widget vs built-in+2-40 hHigh
    2Template vs unique design+0-50 hMedium
3Google traffic from the old site+2-10 hHigh
    4Domain ownership+1-6 hHigh
5Health questions in the form+1-12 hHigh
    6Privacy policy+1-6 hMedium

The answers move the estimate by roughly 7-90 h. Nothing asked about texts, photos, languages, pages, who edits or the deadline: the brief answers all of them.

    3. If the client won't answer

Booking through the existing system's widget (confirm before signing) · template design · about 6 redirects from old URLs · contact form without health data (confirm before signing).

Connects securely to your tools. The creator never sees your data.

    About this skill

Website Estimate Questions is for freelancers and small studios who get a website brief and need answers before they can quote.

Paste the brief as text, a chat log, a screenshot or a voice-note transcript. The skill reads it first and lists what is already clear, so the client sees their brief was read. Then it ranks every unknown by how many hours it can swing the estimate: pages, design source, content, languages, bookings, payments, catalog size, integrations, migration, who edits after launch. Only the top ones become questions, with a hard cap of 10.

It never asks what the brief already answers. Questions are written in plain words for a non-technical client, with answer options where they help, in the language of the brief.

You also get an internal note with the hour swing and the reason behind each question, and a fallback: the assumptions to estimate with today if the client never replies, with the riskiest ones marked.

Works with any platform (custom code, WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Tilda) and doesn't push one. It doesn't price the site, and it runs no scripts and makes no network calls.

After launch, when the client sends a list of small changes, Change Request Triage sorts free warranty fixes from paid work.
