I need to add a new custom post type to a plugin built with WPBP. Please help me create the class and register it correctly in the engine.
- Read your context and instructions
- Compiled the wordpress plugin boilerplate
- Generated the UI component
I will create a new CPT class following the WPBP PSR-4 structure and ensure it is registered via the Internals namespace so it loads in all contexts.
CPT Implementation
First, I have created the class file at plugin-name/internals/PostTypes.php:
<?php
namespace Plugin_Name\Internals;
use Plugin_Name\Engine\Base;
/**
* Handles Custom Post Type registration.
*/
class PostTypes extends Base {
/**
* Register hooks.
*/
public function initialize() {
add_action( 'init', [ $this, 'register_books_cpt' ] );
}
/**
* Register the "Book" CPT.
*/
public function register_books_cpt() {
$labels = [
'name' => _x( 'Books', 'Post Type General Name', 'plugin-name' ),
'singular_name' => _x( 'Book', 'Post Type Singular Name', 'plugin-name' ),
];
$args = [
'label' => __( 'Book', 'plugin-name' ),
'public' => true,
'show_in_rest' => true,
'supports' => [ 'title', 'editor', 'thumbnail' ],
'has_archive' => true,
];
register_post_type( 'pn_book', $args );
}
}
Next, I updated the plugin-name/engine/Initialize.php (or ensured the directory is scanned) to include this class. Because it is in Internals, the engine will instantiate it automatically during the plugins_loaded sequence.
Next steps
- Run
composer dumpautoload -oto register the new PSR-4 class mapping. - Flush rewrite rules by visiting Settings > Permalinks in your WordPress admin.
- Run
vendor/bin/phpstan analyseto verify the new class passes level max analysis.

About this skill
Standard WordPress development often leads to messy, procedural plugins that are hard to test and maintain. This skill manages the WordPress Plugin Boilerplate Powered (WPBP) ecosystem, a PSR-4 compliant meta-project designed for building professional-grade plugins with modern PHP standards. It handles the complex relationship between the boilerplate template, the project generator, and the modular engine core.
What it does
- Boilerplate Architecture Management helps you navigate and modify the engine, context, and initialization logic of WPBP-based projects.
- Generator Synchronization ensures any changes to template code preserve the
WPBPGenconditional directives and{{placeholder}}tags required by the generator. - Toolchain Automation runs pre-configured workflows for Composer, npm, PHPStan (level max), and GrumPHP to maintain code quality.
- Testing Suite Execution manages Codeception and wp-browser configurations for unit, wpunit, functional, and acceptance testing.
- Modernization Execution follows the F0-F5 improvement plan to upgrade legacy projects to PHP 8.1+ and improved architectural patterns.
How it works
- Context Analysis identifies if you are working on the boilerplate core, the generator, or a specific plugin instance.
- Environment Setup runs
composer installandnpm install, ensuring the criticalcomposer dumpautoload -ocommand is executed to prevent production failures. - Capability Extension adds new features via PSR-4 classes in
IntegrationsorInternalsfolders, automatically registering them via theInitializeclass. - Verification Loop triggers static analysis and test suites to confirm that new code meets the strict coding standards before commit.
Frameworks & tools
This tool uses PHP 7.4/8.1, WordPress, Composer, npm, PHPStan, Codeception, wp-browser, GrumPHP, and React for Gutenberg blocks.
Why this beats prompting it yourself
Generic AI prompts often ignore the "meta" nature of a boilerplate, accidentally deleting the generator directives that allow the template to function. This skill understands the internal dependency between the Initialize engine and the Context container, preventing common initialization deaths in production environments.
Use cases
- Scaffold a new WordPress plugin using the
wpbp-generatorCLI. - Refactor legacy procedural hooks into PSR-4 compliant classes.
- Implement automated CI/CD pipelines using the included GitHub Actions workflows.
- Troubleshoot autoloading and namespace issues in complex multi-folder plugins.
Known limitations
Requires a local environment with PHP, Node, and MySQL for full test suite execution. It is strictly tied to the WPBP architecture and does not support generic procedural WordPress plugin structures.
