About this skill
Manage your Steam library through an AI agent with a structured workflow for discovery, recommendations, tracking and backlog planning.
Steam Library Companion works with the local Steam Library MCP server to turn your connected Steam library and local gaming state into useful actions. Instead of staring at a large backlog or manually keeping track of what you are playing, your AI agent can use the right MCP tools to help you decide what to play and organize your progress.
What it does
- Library discovery — Search your Steam library for specific games, inspect game details and review aggregate library statistics.
- Smart recommendations — Get Play Now recommendations based on available session time, solo or friends mode, local tracker state and your recommendation preferences.
- Backlog tracking — Manage local statuses such as playing, paused, completed and dropped without modifying your Steam account.
- Backlog planning — Create weekly or monthly gaming plans around a total time budget and target game count.
- Metadata & achievements — Retrieve enriched game metadata, estimated durations when available and Steam achievement progress when supported.
- Recommendation preferences — Set priorities, exclusions and solo/with-friends preferences for individual games.
- Manual collection — Add supported Steam titles manually using an AppID or Steam Store URL when they are not returned by the configured library.
- Background tasks — Inspect and manage supported synchronization, enrichment and plan-related tasks.
How it works
Steam Library Companion acts as the operating playbook for Steam Library MCP.
For example, the agent can:
- Use
steam_search_libraryandsteam_get_gameto find and inspect games. - Use
recommendation_get_play_nowto choose a game for the current session. - Use local tracker tools to mark games as playing, paused, completed or dropped.
- Use
backlog_create_planto build a weekly or monthly plan around your available gaming time. - Read and update recommendation preferences to personalize future suggestions.
- Check achievement progress, metadata and background task status when those features are available.
The skill also guides the agent on when not to guess. Missing durations, unavailable achievements and upstream API failures are reported as unavailable instead of being fabricated.
Requirements
This skill requires Steam Library MCP to be installed and configured locally.
Steam Library MCP uses a local SQLite database for tracker state, preferences, backlog plans, cached durations and manual collection entries.
It can retrieve data from:
- Steam Web API
- IGDB, when configured
- SteamGridDB, when configured
API credentials remain in the user's local environment configuration and should never be pasted into prompts or exposed to the skill.
Why use this instead of prompting manually?
A generic prompt does not know which Steam Library MCP tools to use, how the local tracker works, how recommendations should respect exclusions and priorities, or how to handle missing provider data safely.
Steam Library Companion provides a consistent workflow so compatible AI agents can use Steam Library MCP correctly while keeping Steam data and local tracker state clearly separated.
Example use cases
- "I have 90 minutes tonight. What should I play?"
- "Show me what I am currently playing."
- "Mark this game as completed."
- "Build me an 8-hour gaming plan for this week."
- "Exclude this game from future recommendations."
- "Show my recent Steam games."
- "Check my achievement progress for this game."
- "Add this Steam game to my manual collection."
Privacy & local-first design
Tracker status, recommendation preferences, backlog plans and manual collection entries remain local.
Changes made through these features do not modify your Steam account.
Known limitations
- Automatic Steam Families synchronization is not supported.
- Entries marked as
familyare user-declared local metadata and do not represent verified Steam Families entitlements. - Ownership or current access is not verified for manually added games.
- Estimated game durations depend on available metadata and may be unavailable.
- Achievement data depends on Steam, the user's profile settings and individual game support.
How to use
Skills on Agensi run inside your AI agent. Copy the prompt, paste it into your agent, and it connects to Agensi and installs this skill for you. If a payment is needed, your agent shows it to you first.
