Sponsorship & Brand Deal Kit
Example session with this skill installed
I write Solo Studio Notes, a weekly newsletter (beehiiv) for freelance designers, and I have a small YouTube channel. About 12,000 subscribers combined. I did one paid deal and got one free product. A mockup company just offered me $100 for a YouTube integration. I want a media kit and a rate card, and I need to know who to pitch. My current kit headline says "12,000+ readers & viewers, 50% open rate."
[Stats provided: 9,380 subscribers, 4,690 avg opens, 412 avg clicks; YouTube 2,710 subs, 1,240 median views; past deal $80; minimum hourly rate $60.]

Sponsorship Kit: Solo Studio Notes + Solo Studio (YouTube)
Demo case. The creator, publication, channel and every brand are fictional.
(Excerpt: verdict, audit, rate card and negotiation. The full kit also includes positioning, the media kit text and layout, brand targets, pitch emails, the deal memo checklist and FTC disclosure wording per format.)
1. Verdict: PITCH-READY (newsletter-led)
| Channel | Verdict | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Newsletter primary | PITCH-READY | CPM price $84 is within 10% of the $90 time floor. A real past deal cleared at an $18.56 effective CPM. |
| Newsletter secondary | PITCH-READY | $23–32 benchmark-ratio price brackets the $30 floor. |
| YouTube integration (standalone) | BUILD AUDIENCE FIRST | CPM price $50–99 at 1,240 median views vs a $240 time floor. |
| Previous kit | FIX KIT → fixed here | The headline summed platforms ("12,000+") and led with an inflated open rate. |
2. Audience audit: vanity-metric flags
"12,000+ combined" (9,380 + 2,710): sums two platforms with unknown overlap, and neither number is what a brand buys. Removed.
50% open rate: Apple Mail Privacy Protection can overcount opens. Show clicks (412, an 8.8% click-to-open rate) next to it.
186,000 lifetime YouTube views: one video is 33% of that, and lifetime views aren't what an integration gets. Not used.
- Sellable units: 4,690 average opens per send (newsletter) · 1,240 median 30-day views (YouTube).
5. Rate card
CPM evidence: (1) your past deal: $80 ÷ 4,310 opens × 1,000 =
$18.56. (2) Dupple (a newsletter ad seller, so it has a commercial interest), B2B only: tech $10–20. (3) YouTube: no published benchmark; Pixelmoss offer = $80.65 effective CPM → [ASSUMPTION: $40–80, you confirm].
| Placement | CPM price (formula) | Time floor | Base price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newsletter primary | 4.69 × $18 = $84.42 | $90 | $90 |
| Newsletter secondary | 25–35% of primary = $22.50–31.50 | $30 | $30 |
| YouTube integration | 1.24 × $40–80 = $49.60–99.20 | $240 | $240 (bundle only) |
For YouTube to stand alone: $240 ÷ CPM × 1,000 → 3,000 median views at $80 CPM, or 6,000 at $40.
| Package | Sum | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 3-issue primary pack | $270 | $245 |
| Launch bundle (2 primary + 1 integration) | $420 | $375 |
Add-ons (your policy, [ASSUMPTION], not market data): organic usage +25% · paid usage/whitelisting +40% · category exclusivity +25% · rush +25%.
8. Negotiation: responding to Pixelmoss ($100 for a YouTube integration)
$100 ÷ 1,240 × 1,000 = $80.65 CPM. That's a fair CPM, but 58% below your $240 time floor. Trade the deliverable, not the rate:
"Thanks for the offer. I use Pixelmoss for client mockups, so this is a good fit. A YouTube integration takes me about four hours, and at my current views I price it at $240. For $100, I can offer a primary placement in Solo Studio Notes ($90: 4,690 average opens, 412 average clicks, measured Oct 6). Or the integration is $240, or $375 bundled with two newsletter placements. Happy to send the kit."
Walk away if: the brand wants the "Sponsored" label removed or claims you can't back up, wants perpetual usage, or pays below the floor for video.
Disclosure (FTC): newsletter: "Sponsored by [Brand]" at the top of the placement · video: say it out loud and show it on screen at the start of the integration, not only in the description. Not legal advice.

About this skill
For newsletter writers, YouTubers, podcasters, bloggers and Instagram/TikTok creators who want brand deals but don't know what to charge, who to pitch, or how to say no to a lowball offer.
What it does
- Audience audit from your real numbers: the unit brands actually buy (opens, median views, downloads), engagement, and dated stats. It flags vanity metrics: summed "combined reach", Apple-inflated open rates, lifetime views, follower counts.
- Media kit: positioning, audience, stats with the date measured, placements, and past partners (only real ones, only with permission), plus a one-page layout guide.
- Rate card with the math shown: price = sellable unit ÷ 1,000 × CPM, checked against your time floor. CPM comes from your own past deals first, then comparables you supply, then sourced benchmarks with caveats (no invented rates). Packages, usage rights, whitelisting, exclusivity and rush fees are all labeled as your policy.
- Brand targeting: a fit filter that sorts brands into PITCH / TRY FIRST / EXCLUDE (products you haven't used, or that conflict with your audience, are kept out).
- Pitch emails: cold, warm and follow-up.
- Negotiation guide: countering lowball offers by trading deliverables rather than cutting your rate, payment terms, kill fees, and when to walk away.
- Deal memo checklist: deliverables, dates, approvals, usage rights, exclusivity, payment, disclosure.
- FTC disclosure built in: exact wording for each format (newsletter, video, Stories, live). It refuses hidden sponsorships, endorsing products you haven't tried, and health or income claims you can't back up.
- Verdict: PITCH-READY / BUILD AUDIENCE FIRST / FIX KIT, per channel.
Not legal advice.
