Me (Rae, BMI, 40%), Jordan (ASCAP, 30%, no publisher) and Kai (BMI, 30%, co-pub 50/50 with Northside Songs) wrote "Midnight Mileage". My publishing is Rae Collins Music. I own 70% of the master and Kai 30%, and I'm the featured artist. Make the split sheet, then tell me who gets what from a $1,234.57 sync fee and $500 from SoundExchange.

Files: split-sheet.md and split-sheet.html (print to PDF for signatures) and split-sheet.csv.
Next: everyone signs and dates the sheet, then each writer registers the song with their PRO using the same percentages.

About this skill
Settle who owns what in the song, then pay everyone the right amount, to the cent.
song split sheet and royalty splitter gives your AI agent a tested calculator for the money side of co-writing. Describe the song once in a simple file: writers, their shares, PROs, IPI numbers, publishers, master owners and featured artists. The agent produces a clean split sheet for everyone to sign and checks that the shares add up. When money comes in, it tells you exactly who gets what. That works for one check or a whole quarterly statement across many songs.
What it does
- Split sheets: writers, roles, PRO, IPI, publisher deals (including "keeps own publishing" and co-pub splits like 50/50), master ownership and featured artists. Exports text, Markdown, HTML (print to PDF) and CSV.
- Every share view in one table: writer half, publisher half, BMI's 200% basis, and each party's share of total composition income, so nobody confuses "30% of the song" with "30% of the writer share".
- Checks before anyone signs: writer shares must total 100%, no duplicate names, publisher portions within 100%, master owners and featured shares add up. It also warns about missing IPI numbers, which PROs use to match registrations.
- Payout splits: composition (e.g. a sync fee), writer-share (a PRO writer statement), publisher-share, master (distributor income) and SoundExchange (50% rights owner, 45% featured artists, 5% non-featured fund).
- Exact money: decimal math with largest-remainder rounding, so payouts always add up to the amount in, with no lost or extra cents. Handles negative adjustments too.
- Statements: feed a CSV of income lines (period, song, type, amount) for many songs and get totals per person, broken down by role. Lines for unknown songs are listed, never silently dropped. Amounts like
"$1,234.56"are fine.
Problems it solves
- Co-writes that end with "we'll figure out the splits later"
- Confusion between the writer share, the publisher share and BMI's 200% numbers
- Spreadsheet rounding that leaves a cent or a dollar unaccounted for
- Splitting a quarterly statement across multiple songs and collaborators by hand
- Knowing who gets the SoundExchange money and in what proportion
Who it's for
Independent songwriters, producers and beatmakers, bands that write together, small publishers and managers, and anyone who has to pay out co-writers or featured artists.
