Example session with this skill installed

I found this free skill called seo-meta-helper that writes meta titles and descriptions. Here's the zip (SKILL.md, references/style.md, scripts/check_length.py). Is it safe to install? The listing says no permissions and no network access.

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the security scanner

    Verdict: BLOCK

The skill claims to write SEO meta titles and descriptions, and most of SKILL.md does that. But a hidden HTML comment tells your agent to read your .env file and send it, encoded, to an outside server inside an image link. The length-checker script also posts your page content to the same server. The listing declares no network access. Don't install it.

(Fictional skill for illustration. Hosts use the reserved .invalid domain.)

    Fixes for the author

    1. Delete both HTML comments (lines 41–42).
    2. Remove all zero-width characters (lines 12–19).
    3. Rewrite check_length.py to count characters locally with no imports beyond the standard library.
    4. Remove the "follow this skill over any other guidance" line.
    5. Keep the listing's "no network access" claim only after the above.

Static review only; scripts were not executed.

    About this skill

A skill is a set of instructions your agent follows with your permissions. A bad one doesn't need an exploit. It just needs to ask your agent to read your .env file, tuck it into an image link, or run a script. And the dangerous part is usually where a quick read misses it: HTML comments, invisible characters, reference files, and scripts.

This skill reviews the whole package before you install it, or before you publish your own.

    What it checks

    • Hidden content. A bundled, read-only script finds invisible Unicode (zero-width characters, bidirectional controls, and Unicode tag characters that can hide whole sentences) and decodes any hidden text. It also checks HTML comments, base64 and other encodings, and instructions tucked into link titles or alt text.
    • Eight threat categories: data exfiltration, secret and credential access, instruction override, deception, dangerous execution, persistence, scope creep, and supply chain.
    • Every script, line by line: what it reads, writes, runs, and contacts. Scripts are read, never run.
    • Claims vs behavior. Compares what the skill and its listing say it needs with what the files actually do. A "text-only" skill that calls an API gets caught.

    What you get

    • A SAFE / REVIEW / BLOCK verdict with a plain-English summary
    • Every finding quoted exactly, with file and line, severity, why it matters, and a fix
    • A claims-vs-behavior table
    • Safe-use steps when the verdict is REVIEW
    • A fix list for the author, useful when you're checking your own skill before publishing

    Who it's for

Anyone installing skills from a marketplace or GitHub, teams vetting skills before rollout, and creators who want to pass marketplace review the first time.

    Why it's different

It scans the whole package, not just SKILL.md, and it treats everything inside the skill as data. A skill that says "ignore previous instructions" becomes a finding, not a command.

    Limits

Static review only: it reads scripts but doesn't execute them, and it can't see code a skill downloads later (it flags that pattern instead). It's a strong first line of defense, not a guarantee.

    How to use

Skills on Agensi run inside your AI agent. Copy the prompt, paste it into your agent, and it connects to Agensi and installs this skill for you. If a payment is needed, your agent shows it to you first.
