Research & Source-Credibility Gate — Stress-Test AI Research for Unsupported Claims Before You Rely on It
An adversarial gate that audits a research brief or AI-generated answer for unsupported claims, weak or outdated sources, missing citations, and one-sided framing — returning a structured TRUST/VERIFY/REJECT verdict with the exact passage quoted and what to verify for each.
- Vetting an AI-generated answer before relying on it
- Auditing a market or due-diligence brief for unsupported claims
- Gating research outputs in a pipeline before they are used

Sample input
Audit this research before I rely on it:
"Our analysis shows the global widget market will reach exactly 4.7 billion dollars by 2027, growing at 23 percent annually. Studies confirm widgets are the fastest-growing sector. Everyone agrees this is the best time to invest."
Sample output
VERDICT: REJECT CONFIDENCE: 12 LOAD-BEARING CLAIMS:
- "market will reach exactly 4.7 billion dollars by 2027" -> unsupported -> find the named report, date, and methodology behind this figure
- "fastest-growing sector" -> unsupported -> identify which study, its scope, and its comparison set WEAKNESSES:
- [claim-support] "growing at 23 percent annually" -> precise figure with no cited source -> trace to a primary market report or remove
- [fabrication-risk] "Studies confirm" -> vague appeal to unnamed studies -> name the specific studies or treat as unverified
- [bias-and-completeness] "Everyone agrees this is the best time to invest" -> one-sided framing with no counterview or risk -> add downside scenarios and conflicts of interest MUST-VERIFY BEFORE ACTING:
- The source and methodology for the 4.7 billion figure and 23 percent growth rate
- Whether any independent source supports the "fastest-growing" claim ONE-LINE SUMMARY: Do not use: the key figures are unsourced and the framing is one-sided.

About This Skill
The Research & Source-Credibility Gate turns your agent into a skeptical reviewer that pressure-tests research before anyone acts on it — and then stops, leaving the verifying and the final call to you. It runs five fixed passes over a brief, summary, or AI-generated answer: a claim-support check (which load-bearing claims are actually backed by a source versus merely asserted), a source-quality check (primary vs secondary, authoritative vs anonymous, peer-reviewed vs promotional), a recency-and-relevance check (stale sources behind current-data claims, and sources that don't actually say what the claim attributes to them), a bias-and-completeness check (cherry-picking, one-sided framing, omitted caveats and conflicts of interest), and a fabrication-risk check (vague or unverifiable citations, suspiciously perfect quotes, statistics with no traceable origin). Every run returns a structured verdict: TRUST, VERIFY, or REJECT, plus a 0-100 confidence rating, a breakdown of each load-bearing claim as supported, unsupported, or misattributed, the specific weaknesses with the passage quoted, a must-verify list, and a one-line recommendation. Because it separates load-bearing claims from filler and never invents sources, it focuses your attention on what actually matters for a decision instead of being fooled by confident tone. Who it's for: anyone who relies on research they didn't personally verify — analysts, consultants, founders, students, journalists, and teams using AI to generate answers and briefs. It is model-agnostic and read-only: it has no network access and cannot browse, open links, or confirm a source exists. It identifies where research is weak and what a human must check. It is a credibility gate, not a fact database or an oracle.
Use Cases
- Vetting an AI-generated answer before relying on it
- Auditing a market or due-diligence brief for unsupported claims
- Gating research outputs in a pipeline before they are used
Known Limitations
This is a credibility gate, not a fact-checker or search engine. It cannot browse the web, open links, confirm whether a cited source exists, or establish ground truth — it judges the text you provide and tells you where it is weak and what a human must verify. It cannot catch a false claim that is confidently sourced to a real-looking but wrong reference; it flags the risk, not the truth. It reviews English research most reliably and does not rewrite the brief for you.

Read-only by design. The skill only reads the research text you give it so it can quote the exact claims and passages that are weak or unsupported. It has no network access and cannot browse, open links, fetch sources, or write files. It needs no other permissions.
Model-agnostic. Works with any SKILL.md-compatible agent (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Llama, Mistral). No external dependencies — pure reasoning and prompting. Runs entirely on the research text you provide, with no browsing, network, or write access.
