Find me good review papers on nonlinear metasurfaces to start my thesis literature review.

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the paper search

I checked your library first, then searched OpenAlex (14,276 matches for "nonlinear metasurface review") and read the abstracts of the top results. All titles, years, venues and DOIs below come from OpenAlex.

    Already in your library

    Read first

    Start with

    #1 and

#2, then #3 for methods. Free full text: #1 https://doi.org/10.1016/j.mattod.2017.06.007, #2 https://www.nature.com/articles/natrevmats201710.pdf. No free copy was found for

#3, so you'll need your institution's library access for that one.

1 library check, 1 OpenAlex query | 4 kept, 2 excluded, 1 already in your library

Say "add #1 and #2" and I'll add them to the collection you have selected in your library, with the PDFs attached.

    About this skill

Free and open source on GitHub. This listing is the same skill as a ready-to-install package: one zip, no repo to clone, nothing to build. If you'd rather set it up from source, it's free at https://github.com/nebula0/zotero-llm-wiki. Buying here is the convenient route and supports development.

Ask Claude for papers on a topic and you usually get a confident list where some DOIs don't exist and years are off. Paper Search fixes that.

    What it does

    • No made-up citations. Title, authors, year, journal and DOI all come from OpenAlex, a free index of 250M+ scholarly works. If OpenAlex has no record of a paper, Claude says so instead of filling in the gaps.
    • Honest summaries. Every recommended paper gets one sentence on its contribution, labelled with what it's based on: full text, abstract, or bibliographic data only.
    • Excluded papers are listed too, each with a reason, so you can see what was considered.
    • Citation tracking. "What cites this paper?" and "What does it cite?", most cited first, starting from papers you already trust.
    • Knows what you already have. It checks your reference library first and marks papers you've already saved, so they aren't recommended as new.
    • Adds papers to your library for you. Say "add #1 and #3" and they go into the collection you have selected, with authors, abstract and DOI filled in. When a free open-access PDF exists (arXiv, university repositories, open-access journals), it's attached too. Papers you already have are skipped.
    • Tells you when you need institutional access. Paywalled papers are flagged: you'll need your institution's access to download them, and Claude says so plainly instead of pretending.
    • Optional memory. Say "save my searches to <folder>" and it keeps a papers.csv you can open in Excel or Google Sheets. Papers you excluded are skipped in later searches. Mark a row "excluded" in the spreadsheet and it works the same.
    • Replies in your language.

    Requirements

    • Claude Code
    • Python 3.9 or newer (no extra packages)
    • Optional: the Zotero 7 desktop app, for checking your library and adding papers. Without it, searching still works.

Setup: Unzip into ~/.claude/skills/paper-search/, then tell Claude "set up paper-search". It checks everything step by step.

    What it doesn't do

    • It doesn't download paywalled papers. Many publisher sites also block automated downloads even for free papers; those get the link instead of the PDF.
    • Web search ranking isn't reproducible, so this is a research assistant, not a systematic-review tool.

Pairs well with Paper Ask (ask about the papers in your library and get answers with page numbers).
