    norma - one task loop and verification gate, enforced by git

    1

    Sets up and drives norma, the open-source task harness that makes every coding agent follow the same loop and refuses commits that did not pass the same verification gate - enforced by a git hook, not by the agent.

    Example session with this skill installed

    Set up norma in this repo so my agents can't commit untested code.

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the norma - one

    Checked first (changed nothing): norma is not installed, the repo has no harness
    (no gate, no pre-commit hook), the tree is clean on master, and it looks like a
    Python project (pyproject.toml).

    I need your OK on two things before changing anything:

    1. Install the norma CLI from a tagged release - not master:

      • Homebrew: brew install jcarlosrodicio/tap/norma, or
      • a tagged git clone into ~/.local/share/norma, linked from ~/.local/bin, or
      • the install script, downloaded and shown to you before it runs.
        This needs github.com and writes outside the repo.
    2. Add the harness: I'll run norma install --dry-run and show you the plan.
      It adds the verification gate (scripts/harness/verify), the pre-commit hook,
      the agent procedures, AGENTS.md, three .gitignore lines, and sets
      core.hooksPath. Then norma doctor, and an interview for your real test commands.

    One honest limit: the hook refuses commits the gate has not verified, but
    git commit --no-verify skips it. Only CI running scripts/harness/verify --full
    closes that hole - this repo has no CI yet.

    Which install route do you want, and do you approve norma install?

    About this skill

    norma installs a task harness into a git repository: a verification gate that runs the project's own checks and the tests for what changed, a pre-commit hook that refuses a commit without a fresh stamp from that gate, and a library of procedures - orient, enrich, branch, plan, implement, verify, review, document, hand over - that any agent follows by file path.

    This skill is the entry point. It lets an agent:

    • detect whether norma and its harness are already in the repository, and whether the hook is actually armed;
    • install the CLI and add the harness through norma's official routes - Homebrew, a tagged release, or the install script shown to you before it runs - and only after you say yes;
    • work through the repository's own loop and gate instead of improvising one;
    • explain why a commit was refused and what fixes it, without bypassing anything.

    What it does not do: enforce anything by itself. The guarantees come from the git hook, the gate and your CI; the skill forbids the agent to fake them - no --no-verify, no hand-written stamp, no edits to the gate - and tells it to say so when your CI does not run the gate, because then the hook is the only check.
