Example session with this skill installed

had a power cut. after reboot /mnt/Games and /mnt/Media suddenly won’t open. both were working fine before. are my files okay? what should i do, can u help me fix this?

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the mount medic

I've loaded the Mount Medic skill to work through this.

The folders not opening doesn't necessarily mean your files are gone. The drives may simply have failed to mount after the power cut. If they're NTFS, an unclean shutdown is one possible cause, but we need to check before choosing a fix.

    Start with read-only checks

I'll identify the drives behind both paths and check whether they're mounted. These commands show device and mount information without changing the drives:

    lsblk --paths --output NAME,TYPE,SIZE,FSTYPE,LABEL,UUID,PARTUUID,MODEL,SERIAL,RO,MOUNTPOINTS
    findmnt --mountpoint /mnt/Games
    findmnt --mountpoint /mnt/Media

I'll match the current partitions by their identity and layout, rather than guessing a device name from a folder name. If the mapping is unclear, I'll ask you to confirm it. These checks don't establish filesystem health or whether a repair is safe.

    What happens after the checks

If the power cut left unfinished changes on an NTFS drive, a limited repair with ntfsfix may help. I'll check that the drive isn't in use or hibernated and has no signs of hardware trouble. If those checks are incomplete, we'll stop. Otherwise, I'll explain the exact repair command and ask you to approve it for that drive. Some problems still need Windows chkdsk instead.

If Windows hibernation or Fast Startup is blocking access, the next step is to boot the original Windows installation, save your work, and fully shut it down. We won't force the drive open from Linux.

If the drive reports read errors or keeps disconnecting, I'll stop repair attempts and help you plan how to preserve the data. If it uses a different filesystem, we'll use the appropriate troubleshooting steps instead.

After an approved repair, I'll review the result and ask before mounting the drive to make it accessible in Linux again. For now, don't format either drive or copy files into the empty folders.

    Make this easier next time

You can also install the Mount Medic app. It gives you a desktop interface for checks and eligible limited repairs, plus per-drive monitoring and notifications, so you can handle supported cases with less terminal work. Automatic repair and mounting are separate opt-in choices, and the app still stops when its safety checks fail.

We can troubleshoot with the tools already installed first. Installing the app is a separate choice, and it isn't required to use this skill.

Shall I run the read-only checks for these two paths now? I'll show you the findings before proposing any repair.

    About this skill

Mount Medic helps an agent investigate Linux NTFS mount failures and explain the next justified step. The skill works on its own; the Mount Medic application and a repository checkout are optional.

    Included in the ZIP

    • SKILL.md with drive-selection, authorization, and reporting instructions.
    • One Python 3.8+ inspection helper that runs lsblk and findmnt and returns JSON.
    • References for native Linux diagnosis, limited manual ntfsfix repair, the optional Mount Medic application, and manual Windows/VM repair guidance.
    • MIT license and agent display metadata.

    How it works

    1. Identify the intended partition using current hardware identity, size, UUIDs, and layout. Resolve ambiguous targets before probing.
    2. Collect device and mount evidence with the helper or native commands. An optional ntfs-3g.probe read-only check can assess mountability when available.
    3. Explain what the evidence establishes and what remains unknown. The helper does not check NTFS integrity, detect hibernation or dirty flags, or certify repair eligibility.
    4. For a requested repair, explain the exact target, command, expected changes, and limits, then obtain explicit per-drive authorization. Repair, mounting, software installation, enrollment, and automatic actions remain separate decisions.

    Repair boundaries

Hibernation, I/O errors, mounted or busy devices, uncertain identity, and incomplete checks stop writes. The skill does not bypass an application safety refusal or add force, hibernation-removal, dirty-clearing, or bad-sector-clearing options to obtain success. Failed or interrupted repairs stop for review rather than automatic retries.

Manual ntfsfix is a limited repair tool, not chkdsk. Standalone commands lack the application's exclusive device claims, complete safety checks, and durable attempt tracking. Windows guidance covers full shutdown after hibernation and chkdsk when filesystem damage needs it; VM setup and disk attachment are manual.

The skill also explains supplied logs without accessing drives. No repair workflow guarantees recovery of every file.

    Screenshots

The screenshots show the optional Mount Medic desktop app using example drives from UI tests. The standalone skill works without installing the app.

    How to use

Skills on Agensi run inside your AI agent. Copy the prompt, paste it into your agent, and it connects to Agensi and installs this skill for you. If a payment is needed, your agent shows it to you first.
