    LTX-2.5 Video Upscale & Re-detail Runbook

Example session with this skill installed

    /ltx25-upscale

I have a 10-second AI-generated clip, 1920x1080, 24 fps (241 frames), one continuous take of a presenter talking to camera. I'm renting an RTX 4090 (24 GB) with 64 GB of system RAM. I want a 4K version for YouTube. Plan it.

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the ltx-2 5 video

Plan: 1080p presenter clip to 4K on a rented 4090

Mode: refine, --scale 2.0. A face has to survive and the target is 4K; pixel would invent detail on the face (freckles, lashes) and its VRAM grows with the clip. Refine's VRAM follows the 1024x576 tile, so a 24 GB card is fine (measured 23.3 GB peak at 4K on a 4090).

Output size: 3808x2144 (1.99x). Refine needs both sides divisible by 32 and the CLI picks the nearest size that keeps 16:9, so 3840x2160 is not reachable exactly.

    Memory: the real constraint here

Refine at 4K is bound by system RAM, not VRAM:

    RAM ~= 22 GB staged weights + 0.033 GB x frames x 8.16 MP (with --cached-cond)

--budgetchunksframes rendered per chunkest. peak RAMseams in your one continuous take
    500 (default)6up to 55~37 GB5
    9003up to 95~48 GB2
    whole clip1256~91 GB0, but needs a 128 GB box

Use --budget 900. It fits 64 GB with headroom and cuts the seams from 5 to 2. Because this is one continuous take, there is no scene cut to hide a chunk boundary, so check those two frames (see QA). If a seam shows, re-run on a 128 GB-RAM box with --budget 2100 for a single chunk.

Time: about 60 minutes, scaled from the measured 21 min for 97 frames at 2176x3904 on a 4090.

    Setup on the rented box

    # 1. pack requirements into ComfyUI's own Python, with the image's pip constraint cleared
    PIP_CONSTRAINT= /path/to/ComfyUI/venv/bin/python -m pip install -r custom_nodes/ComfyUI-LTXVideo/requirements.txt "comfy-kitchen>=0.2.26"
    /path/to/ComfyUI/venv/bin/python -c "import colour, kornia, comfy_kitchen; print('ok')"

    # 2. skip the 15 GB text encoder: copy ReDetail's tools/comfyui_cond_cache/ into ComfyUI/custom_nodes/, restart ComfyUI
    # 3. from your machine, tunnel instead of using the provider's HTTP proxy (it blocks POST uploads)
    ssh -N -L 8188:127.0.0.1:8188 -p <port> <user>@<host>

    Run

    python3 redetail.py --setup --model refine --comfy http://127.0.0.1:8188
    python3 redetail.py presenter.mp4 --scale 2.0 --cached-cond --budget 900 --comfy http://127.0.0.1:8188

Your original audio is re-muxed by default. There is no resume: if ComfyUI dies mid-run, press Ctrl-C, fix the cause, and run it again.

    QA before you upload

Face first, at 100%. Crop the face from the source and from the result, scale both to the same size with Lanczos, and compare side by side. Refine keeps the face it was given; it will not repair a soft or malformed one.
    2. Fidelity numbers:

    ffmpeg -i presenter_redetail.mp4 -i presenter.mp4 -lavfi "[0]scale=1920:1080:flags=lanczos[a];[a][1]ssim" -f null - 2>&1 | tail -1

Expect SSIM around 0.92-0.98 for refine. Well below that means something drifted.
    3.

The two chunk boundaries (around frames 80 and 160): step through them at 100% and look for a texture change in skin and hair.
    4. Motion: play it at full size; added detail can shimmer.

    Then stop the rented instance.

Connects securely to your tools. The creator never sees your data.

    About this skill

Upscaling AI-generated video often results in mushy textures or artifacts when using standard interpolation. This skill provides a specialized runbook for the LTX-2.5 IC-LoRAs (Refine-Details and Pixel Spatial Upscaler) using the ReDetail CLI. It replaces trial and error with a procedure: pick the mode, size the run to your VRAM and system RAM so it finishes, run it locally or on a rented GPU, and judge the result honestly.

    What it does

    • Resolution scaling delivers 1.5x to 2x upscaling, including 1080p to 4K workflows.
    • Detail synthesis uses IC-LoRAs to generate new fine details rather than just stretching pixels.
    • Resource management calculates VRAM and system RAM requirements to prevent OOM errors on 24GB, 32GB, and 48GB+ cards.
    • Remote orchestration provides specific patterns for running ComfyUI on cloud providers like RunPod or Vast via SSH tunneling.
    • Quality auditing includes FFmpeg commands for SSIM and PSNR measurement to verify output fidelity against source material.

    How it works

    1. Selection: Choose between refine for fidelity or pixel for speed and aggressive detail generation.
    2. Environment Setup: Execute the installation check to verify FFmpeg, ComfyUI-LTXVideo, comfy-kitchen and the gated model downloads.
    3. Execution: Run the redetail.py CLI with scale, model, and memory budget flags tailored to your local or remote GPU.
    4. Validation: Apply the fidelity check protocol to ensure faces, logos, and motion remain consistent.

    Frameworks & tools

This skill utilizes the LTX-2.5 model architecture, ComfyUI, ReDetail CLI, FFmpeg, and Python. Measured numbers come from NVIDIA RTX 4090, 5090, PRO 4500 and PRO 6000 cards; Apple Silicon runs pixel mode only.

Why this beats prompting it yourself

Generic prompts often fail to account for the specific memory peaks of the VAE decode stage or the /64 grid requirements of LTX-2.5. This skill provides the exact CLI flags and system RAM formulas needed to ensure a 20-minute 4K render actually finishes instead of crashing at 99%.

    Use cases

    • 4K Master Generation: Upscaling 1080p AI clips to 4K while keeping faces and framing (refine can turn small text and logos into glyph-shaped noise).
    • Batch Re-detailing: Applying the 1.0x refine mode to sharpen soft footage without changing resolution.
    • Cloud Rendering: Rendering on a rented GPU through an SSH tunnel, since provider HTTP proxies usually block the uploads.

    Known limitations

Does not repair malformed faces or garbled text from the source. Apple Silicon is limited to pixel mode and performs significantly slower than NVIDIA hardware. Requires 64GB+ system RAM for 4K refine work.
