Hermes WordPress Automation Pack

Build, maintain and ship WordPress from the terminal — a local-first workflow that goes from an empty machine to a live production site without touching the admin GUI.

What it does

Five production-ready Hermes Agent skills covering the whole WordPress lifecycle on one machine:

• local-flywheel-setup — installs Local by Flywheel, prepares a reusable reference configuration (PHP/MySQL versions, admin user, SSL) and provisions a first local site reachable at http://<name>.local. Local bundles PHP, MySQL, nginx/Apache and WP-CLI, so nothing else needs installing.
• wordpress-site-management — creates, inventories, configures and deletes local sites with WP-CLI: WordPress version, active theme, active plugins, options, clean folder removal.
• wp-cli-automation — the maintenance layer: core / plugin / theme updates (whole set or a single target), database export and import (gzip, table exclusions, automatic safety export before overwriting) and bulk plugin install — every script has a --dry-run preview and a real exit code, so it drops straight into cron or Task Scheduler.
• wordpress-backup-restore — full backups (files + database + a self-describing metadata.json) into a single .tar.gz, a listing of every archive with date and size, and a safe restore with a preview and a confirmation guard before anything is overwritten.
• wordpress-deployment — ships a locally built site to production over FTP/FTPS or SSH/rsync, migrates the database and rewrites the stored URLs from the local domain to the production domain — with --dry-run at every step and wp-config.php, .env and logs excluded by default.

Why use this pack

Most WordPress guides assume a hosting panel, a plugin subscription and a lot of manual clicking. This pack assumes the opposite: a local site you can build and break freely, a scripted promotion to production, and no lock-in. Every script was run against real Local by Flywheel sites, and each skill documents its own pitfalls, prerequisites and safe defaults.

The result is a repeatable pipeline: provision → configure → maintain → back up → deploy. Change the content, re-run, ship a new site — without a hosting dashboard in the loop.

How to use it

1. Install Hermes Agent and drop the five skill folders into your skills directory.
2. Run local-flywheel-setup first to install Local and create your first site.
3. Use the other four skills for day-to-day work — create/configure, update, back up, deploy. Every script takes --help and --dry-run.

Requirements

• Hermes Agent v0.21+
• Python 3.8+
• Local by Flywheel (installed by the pack, or manually from localwp.com)
• WP-CLI on PATH (or the wp-cli.phar bundled with Local)
• Windows 10/11, macOS or Linux
• No API keys required
• Optional: lftp for FTP/FTPS deployment, rsync + ssh for SSH deployment

Security

Scanned and cleared against the Agensi 8-point security review (8/8):

• No secrets, no telemetry, no obfuscation, no prompt injection
• The only in-code download is the official Local by Flywheel installer from cdn.localwp.com (user-run, not automatic)
• The deployment skill connects only to servers you specify, and always backs up the local site and the remote database before sending
• Sensitive files (wp-config.php, .env, logs) are excluded from deployment and from backups by default
• No API keys or credentials are collected by the pack
