    Compilation result

The sample project shown in the gallery was compiled through GoLatex's local MCP server. The selected main file was main.tex. The build completed successfully and produced a two-page PDF. No compilation errors or warnings were reported.

    PDF preview

The first-page preview was inspected in the GoLatex browser workspace. It displays the document title, abstract, an edit-compile-review diagram, and the sample mean and variance equations. The gallery shows this example in both light and dark mode; the dark-mode screenshot also shows the completed agent compilation.

    Next steps

For a document with requested layout changes, edit the relevant source and compile again. Use render_page on the affected pages when the MCP client supports images, and report which pages were actually reviewed.

    About this skill

Writing and debugging LaTeX is notoriously slow due to broken compilation cycles and diagnostic noise. This skill integrates with a local GoLatex workspace to automate the edit-compile-preview loop directly from your agent. It handles file operations, BibTeX management, and visual PDF verification through a dedicated MCP server.

    What it does

    • Project synchronization reads project metadata, main file settings, and directory structures from the local workspace.
    • Precision editing modifies source files using targeted string replacement to preserve document structure and macros.
    • Automated compilation triggers latexmk builds and parses logs into actionable errors and warnings.
    • Visual inspection renders specific PDF pages as images for layout, table, and figure verification.
    • Bibliography management adds, lists, and validates BibTeX entries to ensure citation integrity.

    How it works

    1. Initialize by calling project_info to sync with the active GoLatex project root and main file.
    2. Modify source files or add BibTeX entries based on technical requirements or prose updates.
    3. Compile the document and review parsed diagnostics to resolve syntax errors or missing packages.
    4. Inspect the output using render_page to confirm that pagination and visual elements match the intended design.

    Frameworks & tools

Requires a macOS environment with Python 3.11+, TeX Live (providing latexmk and synctex), and the GoLatex local server. Communication happens via MCP over Streamable HTTP.

Why this beats prompting it yourself

Generic agents cannot see your local PDF output or know if a compilation actually succeeded. This skill provides a closed-loop system where the agent verifies its own code against the TeX engine and visual results, preventing "hallucinated" successful builds.

    Use cases

    • Debugging complex LaTeX compilation errors and environment conflicts.
    • Automating the addition of verified BibTeX citations to large research papers.
    • Adjusting multi-column layouts and tables by inspecting real-time PDF renders.
    • Refactoring document structure across multiple included TeX files.

    Known limitations

Requires macOS and a local TeX Live installation. Only works with the single project currently open in the GoLatex browser UI. Cannot automatically install system-level TeX dependencies.
