Use the Financials Analyst skill on the attached Project Sentinel financial statements (Sentinel Fire & Safety, Inc., unaudited, management-prepared, 5 pages), and the CIM's financial pages for context. I also have the 2025 tax return (2 pages). Page numbers are the printed footers.

Read it for me in plain English and tell me which add-backs look legitimate.

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the financials analyst

    Financials read: Project Sentinel

Basis: FS (financial statements, 5 pp., unaudited, FS p.1, p.5), CIM, Tax. Mine = my arithmetic.

    1. The trend

Revenue is $5.34M, $5.78M, then $6.21M TTM (FS p.2): +8.2% then +7.4% (mine). The prior years are not dated, so the order is my reading. The CIM says growth came from "net new inspection agreements and modest price increases" (CIM p.6). Steady, not lumpy, on three data points. The 2025 tax return shows gross receipts of $5,950,000 (Tax p.1), $260,000 (4.2%) below TTM. That could be a period difference or a basis difference; the documents do not say.

    2. Margins

Gross and operating margin cannot be calculated. FS p.2 says cost of services and expenses "are summarized on the following pages", but pages 3 to 5 contain no figures. What I can compute: reported EBITDA $1.08M is 17.4% of TTM revenue, adjusted $1.42M is 22.9% (mine, assuming the EBITDA is for the TTM; FS p.4 does not state its period). There is no margin trend to read.

    3. The add-backs, one by one (FS p.4)

Total $340,000: 31.5% of reported EBITDA (mine).

    Add-backAmountRead
Owner's compensation above market$210,000Largest, 62% of the total (mine). Legitimate only if a replacement manager costs less than this. The market-rate cost and his actual pay are not stated (the Tax p.2 schedule has no figures). Stretch until proven.
One-time legal settlement$65,000Plausible if it truly will not recur. The CIM mentions one settlement in the prior year (CIM p.17), but the nature and period are not given. If it was booked outside the EBITDA period, it should not be added back at all.
Personal vehicle and travel$41,000Plausible, if ledger lines show personal use. FS gives no detail.
Discretionary charitable contributions$24,000Most defensible: it is the owner's choice. The documents do not say it will cease.

The statements themselves say each adjustment "should be independently assessed for whether it survives a change of ownership" (FS p.4). Excluding only the owner item gives $1.21M (mine).

    4. Working capital and the balance sheet

FS p.3 lists categories (cash, receivables, vehicles and equipment, payables, accrued expenses, vehicle financing) with no amounts. No working-capital or debt view is possible. Vehicle financing is a debt-like item to size.

    5. The three numbers to verify first

    1. The $210,000 owner add-back, against his total pay and the cost of replacing him.
    2. TTM revenue $6.21M against $5.95M of tax receipts, with the period each covers.
    3. Reported EBITDA $1.08M and its period, from the ledger.

Distinguish: what the statements show are the figures above. What I infer are the growth order, the margins and the legitimacy ratings.

    About this skill

Turn a P&L / balance sheet / financial section into a plain-English read, trend, margins, the adjusted-EBITDA add-backs one by one, working capital, and the three numbers to verify first. Use once you have financials, or when asked to 'analyze these financials', 'are these add-backs legit', or 'read this P&L'.
