Escape Room Engine
Play text escape rooms against the AI with a running clock, an inventory and three-tier hints, where a script, not the AI, decides whether an answer is right.

Escape Room Engine
Example session with this skill installed
Let's do an escape room. Something easy, I've got 20 minutes.
- Read your context and instructions
- Compiled the escape room engine
The Clockmaker's Study (easy, 20:00 limit). The clock has started.
Fingerprint: 11f202b33301270ce24d969ee380b7d31b94690546c3b748cc12441f57364579
Keep this. It proves the room never changed during the game.
The clockmaker left town in a hurry and locked his study behind you. Every clock in here has stopped. Find a way through the workshop door before the night watch comes round.
What you can see:
- Portrait wall
- Mantelpiece
- Wall clock
- Bracket clock
- Tall case clock
- Diary
- Workshop door
Puzzles in view:
The five portraits (on the wall): The portraits are named Rosalind (born 1871), Greta (born 1803), Silas (born 1890), Anton (born 1855) and Elias (born 1829). A brass plate below them reads: "Oldest first. First letters only." Answer: one word.
The music box (on the mantelpiece): The lid is engraved: "Wind me, then spell what every clock in this room is missing." Answer: one word. It's locked until you have a winding key.
The workshop door: A note says: "The lock wants the first word of each underlined diary entry, in order." The iron keyhole must be unlocked first. Answer: three words. It's locked until you have a workshop key.
Your moves:
- Examine something, for example "examine the diary".
- Try an answer, for example "the answer to the portraits is …".
- Ask for a hint. Hints come in three tiers, and each costs time.
- Check your inventory or the clock.
Answers must be in English.
What's your first move?

About this skill
Use when you want an escape room at the table or in chat, solo or with friends: examine objects, collect items, open locks and race the clock, with hints that cost time. In the three ready-made rooms (easy to hard) each answer is stored only as a salted hash and checked by a script, so no answer is written in the room file and the AI never rules by its own judgement, though it can read the clues like any player; a builder turns your own room into a playable file and refuses rooms with an unreachable puzzle or text that spells out an answer.
Do not use when you need answers protected like encryption (someone with the file and a word list can still test guesses offline), or when the AI writes the room itself, because then it knows the answers and only the fingerprint guarantee applies.
Requires: Python 3.9+ (standard library only). An agent that can run scripts and keep files between turns.
Answers are a fair-play lock, not encryption: someone with the room file and a word list can test guesses offline. When the AI writes the room itself it knows the answers, and only the fingerprint guarantee applies.
