Easegate: Web motion that feels physical, not cheap
Gates every animation by how often it plays, then wires shared easing tokens, composite-only properties, springs without overshoot and reduced motion. Review mode returns a findings table by severity.

Easegate: Web motion that feels physical, not cheap
Example session with this skill installed
Easegate, audit the motion in components/menu.tsx, components/toast.tsx and the command palette. Findings only, no fixes yet.
- Read your context and instructions
- Compiled the easegate
- Generated the UI component
Review mode, read-only. 4 findings across 3 files, ordered by severity.
| # | Element and file:line | Rule broken | Severity | Before | After | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Command palette palette.tsx:18 | Keyboard-triggered, 100+ a day, animated | High | opacity 250ms ease-out on open | No animation | code |
| 2 | Dropdown menu.tsx:42 | ease-in, 400ms, transition all | High | transition: all 400ms ease-in | transform, opacity 180ms var(--ease-out) | code |
| 3 | Toast stack toast.tsx:27 | Keyframes on a rapid trigger, restarts from 0 | Medium | @keyframes slideIn | Transition on transform, retargets from live value | code |
| 4 | Menu item hover menu.tsx:61 | Hover not pointer-gated, sticks after tap | Low | :hover { scale: 1.02 } | Inside @media (hover: hover) and (pointer: fine), :active for touch | needs device |
Notes (example project):
- No reduced-motion variant found in any of the 3 files.
- The repo already defines
--ease-outinglobals.css; fixes will extend those tokens, not add a second set. - Finding 4 is confirmed in code; the stuck state after a tap needs a check on a real phone.
Next steps
- Approve fixes for findings 1 to 3 and I will apply them with a reduced-motion crossfade.
- Test finding 4 on a mid-range phone before closing it.

About this skill
Menus that bounce on every click, hover states that make the layout jump, toasts that restart from zero when a second one arrives. Motion added without rules makes an app feel cheap and drops frames on phones. Easegate gives your agent a fixed set of motion rules for Next.js, React, CSS and Framer Motion, starting with the question of whether something should move at all.
What it does
- Frequency gate rates how often an interaction plays. Keyboard shortcuts and actions used 100+ times a day get no animation; delight is kept for rare moments.
- Named purpose requires one word (feedback, spatial, state, continuity, explanation, delight) before any motion is built.
- Shared tokens adds easing curves, durations and a press scale, or extends the tokens the repo already has instead of forking them.
- Composite-only properties keeps animation on
transformandopacity, and rules outtransition: all,scale(0)andease-inon UI. - Springs without overshoot defaults to
bounce: 0, with a little bounce only when a gesture carried momentum. - Reduced motion and interruption ship in the same change: an opacity crossfade for reduced motion, pointer-gated hover and retargetable transitions.
How it works
- Gate and purpose decide whether the element animates and why.
- Tool choice picks the cheapest option: CSS transition,
@starting-style, CSS animation, WAAPI, then Framer Motion only for springs, layout, exit and gestures. - Build writes the code with tokens, durations (exit shorter than enter) and press feedback.
- Verify plays motion at 2x to 5x in DevTools, records the Performance panel, and names which findings still need a real device.
Frameworks & tools
CSS, Framer Motion, WAAPI, Chrome DevTools Animations and Performance panels.
Why this beats prompting it yourself
A plain prompt adds motion everywhere with built-in easing. Easegate can return "no animation" as a valid result, uses one token set, and reviews existing motion as a findings table with file and line, severity, before and after values.
Use cases
- New components such as drawers, toasts, dropdowns and press states.
- Jank fixes when motion drops frames during navigation.
- Motion audits of a diff, page or whole codebase before a UI pass ships.
Known limitations
Review mode is read-only until you ask for fixes. Feel on a mid-range phone cannot be confirmed from code alone. It does not set up the full design token system or critique layout, copy and colour.
How to use
Skills on Agensi run inside your AI agent. Copy the prompt, paste it into your agent, and it connects to Agensi and installs this skill for you. If a payment is needed, your agent shows it to you first.
