    cinematic grade

Example session with this skill installed

Balance the first three clips on V1 which look a bit too warm and flat, then give the whole 60-second timeline a moody cinematic look with some film grain.

I have balanced the first three clips on track V1 by cooling the temperature and bumping the contrast. I also added a global adjustment layer on track V2 spanning the full 60 seconds to apply the cinematic grade.

    Next steps

    1. Review the temperature on Shot 2; I applied a heavier cooling effect to match the window light.
    2. Check if the vignette intensity on the global layer interferes with any corner-placed titles.
    3. Click Export in the FableCut interface to render the final graded sequence.

    What you get

Match color profiles across different camera sensors in a single timeline.Apply consistent film grain and vignettes via adjustment layers.Create stylized VHS or retro aesthetics using RGB splits and overlays.Automate shot balancing for underexposed or poorly white-balanced footage.

    About this skill

    The problem

Timeline edits often feel disjointed when shots from different cameras or lighting conditions are spliced together. Without a unified color grade and proper shot balancing, professional video projects look like amateur home movies.

    What it does

    • Analyzes FableCut project JSON to identify clips across multiple tracks.
    • Balances individual shots by correcting temperature, tint, and exposure mismatches.
    • Applies global cinematic looks using adjustment layers on higher video tracks.
    • Configures film textures including grain, vignettes, RGB splits, and light leaks.
    • Manages intensity shifts between scenes using keyframed properties and split adjustment clips.

    Frameworks & tools

Requires FableCut and the FableCut MCP tools for timeline manipulation.

Why this beats prompting it yourself

Achieving a professional look requires a specific order of operations: balancing shots to neutral before applying a global look. This skill automates that workflow, ensuring grain is consistent across cuts and preventing the "over-graded" look caused by preset stacking.

    Use cases

    • Matching a handheld smartphone clip to a static DSLR shot in the same scene.
    • Applying a cohesive "Teal and Orange" or "Noir" aesthetic to a completed edit.
    • Creating stylized retro VHS or 80s film effects with scanlines and glitch transitions.
    • Fading a color grade intensity during a transition from a dream sequence to reality.

    Known limitations

The agent reads JSON data rather than visual frames, so it may need user input to identify which specific shots require exposure or white balance correction.
