Fictional Node service uses GitHub Actions. Desired flow: run lint and unit tests on pull requests, build once on merge to main, create a versioned artifact, deploy to staging, then require an authorized production approval. No repository config, secret names, cloud provider, runtime version, or production health-check endpoint is supplied. Propose a workflow outline and safe sample YAML skeleton. Never include credentials or deploy anything.

    • Read your context and instructions
    • Compiled the ci cd pipeline

    Proposed release flow

    1. Pull request: install dependencies from the lockfile, run lint and unit tests, and report results. Do not deploy.
    2. Merge to protected main: repeat required checks, build one immutable artifact, attach version and commit metadata, and publish it to the approved registry.
    3. Staging: promote that exact artifact, run health checks and smoke tests, and record the result.
    4. Production: use a protected environment with least-privilege credentials and required human approval. Promote the same artifact; monitor health and document a tested rollback path.

    Illustrative GitHub Actions skeleton

    name: ci
    on:
      pull_request:
      push:
        branches: [main]
    permissions:
      contents: read
    jobs:
      verify:
        runs-on: ubuntu-latest
        steps:
          - uses: actions/checkout@v4
          - uses: actions/setup-node@v4
            with:
              node-version: 20 # verify project support
              cache: npm
          - run: npm ci
          - run: npm run lint
          - run: npm test -- --ci
          - run: npm run build

This skeleton verifies code and builds but intentionally does not publish or deploy. Pin actions to reviewed full commit SHAs before production use; confirm current syntax and supported Node version in official docs and the repository. Add artifact upload/promotion, provenance, staging health checks, protected production environment, and rollback only after the cloud provider and release requirements are known.

    Missing inputs

    • Runtime and package scripts; repository protection rules
    • Artifact registry and immutable tagging convention
    • Staging/production platforms and permissions
    • Secrets manager, environment approvals, and deployment identity
    • Health endpoint, monitoring, rollback method, and data migration behavior

Do not place credentials in YAML or logs. Avoid pull_request_target for untrusted code unless its security model is carefully reviewed. No pipeline has been run and no deployment has occurred.

Connects securely to your tools. The creator never sees your data.

    About this skill

    CD Pipeline Architect

Design and improve continuous delivery pipelines from source changes through build, test, security checks, artifact promotion, staged deployment, and rollback readiness. Clarify repository and environment constraints, map dependencies, reduce redundant work, select meaningful quality gates, and document ownership and failure handling. Produce provider-appropriate pipeline plans and configuration examples with explicit assumptions.

Never expose or invent secrets, credentials, build results, test coverage, or security findings. Prefer least privilege, pinned and reviewed dependencies, protected environments, artifact provenance, and human approval for production changes. Do not deploy or modify infrastructure without explicit authorization. Validate generated configuration against current provider documentation and the project before use; examples are not production guarantees.
