My internet company is overcharging me, help me deal with them.
- Read your context and instructions
- Compiled the bill negotiator
Here's your full battle plan for fighting an internet overcharge.
Assuming a monthly billing cycle and that you've been a customer for at least a year - adjust if different.
1. Your Position
You were charged more than your agreed rate. That's a breach of your service agreement, and you have a solid claim to a refund of the overcharged amount plus a corrected rate going forward. The realistic outcome is a full credit for the overage and a locked-in rate - especially if you're willing to invoke cancellation as a backstop.
2. The Script
Phone - call retention, not general support.
Opening line
"Hi, I'm calling because I've been charged [AMOUNT] but my agreed rate is [YOUR RATE]. I'd like this corrected and a credit issued."
If they say it was a price increase
"I wasn't notified of that increase in writing. I didn't agree to a new rate. I'd like to be restored to [YOUR RATE] and credited [OVERCHARGE AMOUNT]."
If they offer a partial credit
"I appreciate that. Is that the best you're able to do? The full overcharge was [AMOUNT] and I'd like that reflected completely."
Then - silence. Let them fill it.
Email (same day, creates the paper trail):
Subject: Billing Dispute - Account [ACCOUNT NUMBER] - Overcharge of [AMOUNT]
...complete ready-to-send message with a 7-day deadline and two clear asks: full credit + written rate confirmation.
3. The Escalation Ladder
Step 1 - Front-line agent → move up when they say "I can't do that"
Step 2 - Retention/supervisor → "If this can't be resolved today, I'd like to begin the cancellation process."
Step 3 - Formal written complaint → then telecom regulator (FCC/Ofcom/CRTC)
Step 4 - Bank chargeback for charges "not as agreed" - only after Step 3 fails
4. Magic Phrases
"Can you transfer me to the retention department?" / "I'd like this noted on my account record, please." / "Is that the best you're able to do, or should I speak with a supervisor?"
5. If They Say No
Don't close the loop on the phone: "I'll be following up in writing today and expect a response within 7 days." Then send the email immediately - companies treat written disputes differently than calls.
To sharpen this plan further: how long have you been a customer, how many months were you overcharged, and how are you billed?
Connects securely to your tools. The creator never sees your data.
What you get
About this skill
The life admin everyone puts off
The internet bill that quietly jumped $24. The gym that demands you cancel "in person". The refund they denied citing a 14-day window while their own page promises a 1-year warranty. You know you should fight it - but you don't know exactly what to say, so it sits there, costing you money every month.
Companies train their agents with scripts. This skill gives you a better one.
What it does
Describe your situation - even in one vague sentence - and your agent instantly delivers a complete battle plan:
- Your position - an honest read of your rights and the realistic outcome (with stated assumptions when details are missing)
- The script - word-for-word: phone opening lines, answers to the 3 most likely agent pushbacks, or a complete ready-to-send email with subject line
- The escalation ladder - front-line agent → retention/supervisor → formal written complaint → chargeback or consumer protection body, with the exact sentence that triggers each move
- Magic phrases - the lines that change agent behavior ("Can you transfer me to the retention department?", "I'd like this noted on my account record")
- If they say no - the realistic plan B that keeps pressure on
The 5 battle playbooks
- Bill negotiation - retention department tactics, competitor anchoring, loyalty leverage, and the "start the cancellation" move that unlocks real offers
- Hard cancellations - the clear statement + effective date + written confirmation structure, plus warnings about "pause" traps and phone-only cancellation games
- Denied refunds - quoting the company's own promises back at them, deadline pressure, and chargeback timing (last card, never the opening threat)
- Wrong charges - formal dispute wording and the two-ask structure: reverse it AND confirm the cause is fixed in writing
- Compensation claims - documented harm + a specific proportionate ask; precise requests get approved, open rage gets template replies
Why it works
Built by a freelance veteran with 11+ years of negotiating - with clients, companies and everyone in between. The playbooks encode what actually moves agents: silence after the ask, paper trails, policy-not-threat framing, and never accepting the first offer.
Works for any company: telecom, insurance, gyms, airlines, hotels, banks, software subscriptions, marketplaces.
Text-only skill: no scripts, no network calls, zero extra permissions. Tested on Claude.
