Example session with this skill installed
Create a checkpoint for the current task. I've finished the parseInvoice logic but haven't written the tests yet. The main file is src/parser.ts.
- Read your context and instructions
- Compiled the agentrelay
I have updated the task state in .agent-state/tasks/invoice-parser/. The checkpoint now reflects the completed implementation logic and identifies the missing test coverage as the primary blocker.
Checkpoint: Invoice Parser Implementation
Updated: 2023-10-27T14:30:00Z
Task ID: invoice-parser
Status: implementing
Objective
Implement parseInvoice() logic to handle multi-currency inputs and validate against the schema.
- Support USD, EUR, GBP.
- Validate mandatory fields:
date,amount,vendor_id.
Workspace
- Repository: project-x
- Branch: feature/invoice-logic
- HEAD: a1b2c3d
- Relevant dirty files:
src/parser.ts
Current state
The core parsing logic is complete in src/parser.ts. The function correctly identifies currency symbols and maps them to ISO codes. Schema validation is integrated using Zod.
Code map
src/parser.ts: Contains theparseInvoicefunction and currency mapping logic.src/schema.ts: Defines the Zod invoice schema used for validation.
Decisions
Used a regex-based approach for currency detection instead of a third-party library to keep the bundle size small, as we only need to support three major currencies.
Verification
- Command:
npx tsc - Result: passed
- Revision: a1b2c3d
- Note: Code compiles, but logic has not been exercised by runtime tests.
Open issues
- Missing unit tests for edge cases (empty currency cells).
- Integration tests with the database layer not started.
Next action
Create tests/parser.test.ts and add test cases for parseInvoice() focusing on empty or malformed currency strings.
Next steps
- Create the test file
tests/parser.test.ts. - Define test fixtures for USD and GBP invoices.
- Run
npm testto verify the implementation.

About this skill
Coding agents often lose track of complex tasks when context windows fill up or sessions expire. You end up paying for the agent to re-explore the codebase and re-verify work it already did.
AgentRelay solves this by maintaining durable, token-efficient checkpoints that capture the objective, implemented changes, verified tests, and the exact next step. It ensures that any successor agent—whether in a new session or a different tool—can resume work immediately without retracing the entire conversation.
What it does
- State Checkpointing records task objectives, code maps, and implementation progress in a predictable
.agent-statedirectory. - Session Continuity allows agents to pick up exactly where a previous session ended by reading a concise
ACTIVE.mdindex. - Verification Tracking logs specific test results and commands so new agents don't waste tokens re-running successful checks.
- Decision Journaling captures non-obvious technical choices and failed approaches to prevent the agent from repeating mistakes.
- Handoff Optimization formats instructions for the next agent to answer what is done, what is true, and what to do next.
How it works
- Initialize the task by creating a
.agent-statestructure and defining the objective. - Checkpoint progress at meaningful boundaries, such as after a successful implementation or a passing test suite.
- Verify workspace facts upon resuming a session to ensure the checkpoint matches the current repository HEAD and dirty files.
- Handoff by generating a final
CHECKPOINT.mdthat summarizes the work and identifies remaining limitations for the user.
Frameworks & tools
This skill is compatible with SKILL.md-aware agents including Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. It uses standard Markdown for state files and requires no external APIs or paid dependencies beyond the agent itself.
Why this beats prompting it yourself
Manual handoffs are inconsistent and often forgotten when context runs low. Relay provides a rigorous hierarchy for verifying workspace state and prevents agents from hallucinating that previous notes are higher-priority than current user instructions.
Use cases
- Resume complex refactors after reaching context-window limits.
- Move a task from a CLI-based agent to a VS Code-based agent.
- Track progress across multiple days or team members without re-explaining goals.
- Maintain a persistent log of architectural decisions made during a feature build.
Known limitations
Does not automate git commits or pushes. Requires local file read/write access. Effectiveness depends on the agent's ability to follow startup instructions and update files at milestones.
How to use
Skills on Agensi run inside your AI agent. Copy the prompt, paste it into your agent, and it connects to Agensi and installs this skill for you. If a payment is needed, your agent shows it to you first.
